Laurence Berlowitz Tarrant, Ph.D.
Chairman, Chief Scientific Officer and Founder
Dr. Tarrant has extensive experience commercializing medical technologies. As President of ITMA Ltd. he fostered technology transfer between Japan and the United States, resulting in the creation of five biomedical start-up companies.
As a consultant, Dr. Tarrant developed biomedical products for major medical companies such as Stryker Corporation and Nobelpharma. Prior to working as a consultant, Dr. Tarrant was Provost, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of Biology at Clark University. He has also held positions at New York University, State University of New York and the National Science Foundation. He is the inventor of multiple patents in biotechnology.
Dr. Tarrant received his Ph.D. in Developmental Genetics from University of California at Berkeley. He did postdoctoral work, with CH Waddington and Max Birnstiel at the University of Edinburgh, in Developmental Biochemistry. His undergraduate degree in Zoology is from the University of California at Berkeley.
F. Ken Andrews
President and Chief Executive Officer
Ken Andrews has general management, business development, marketing, sales, and clinical development experience across a broad range of
healthcare specialties, including tissue regeneration. He was most
recently Vice President of Marketing and Sales, and Chief Commercial
Officer at Alkermes. Previously, he was founding CEO at Medicalis
Corporation. Among his senior executive positions at biotechnology,
pharmaceutical and device companies, he was Vice President of
Marketing and Sales of the Tissue Repair Division of Genzyme
Corporation.
Mr. Andrews was Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations at
Alteon Pharmaceuticals and Vice President of U.S.
Operations for Seikagaku Corporation. He began his career with
American Hospital Supply as a sales representative and rose in the
ranks to Director of Sales and Marketing. He helped lead the creation
of the initial sales and marketing organizations at both Genentech, Inc. and Centocor, Inc. He has also been a consultant with Synergy Partners, assessing new technologies and products in the life science
industry.
Mr. Andrews graduated from the University of Tennessee with a B.A.
degree in business administration.
Patrick J. Fortune, Ph.D.
Partner, Millennia Partners
Patrick Fortune has more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare, life sciences and information technology sectors. He was previously President and Chief Operating Officer of New Era of Networks; Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Monsanto; and Vice President, Information Management at Bristol Myers Squibb. He has been responsible for nurturing start-up activities from idea to prototype to standalone business. He has also been involved in some 30 M&A transactions from sourcing the company to closing the deal and successfully integrating the result. He has served on the Board of Directors of three public companies and on the engineering and scientific advisory boards of The University of Wisconsin, the University of Illinois, and the University of Chicago. He holds a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, an MBA from Northwestern University, and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin.
Lee R. Wrubel, M.D.
General Partner, Foundation Medical Partner
Dr. Wrubel has 10 years of experience in venture capital and has been associated with a large number of private companies, including such now publicly traded companies as Pozen Pharmaceuticals, OraPharma, and GenVec. Prior to starting Foundation Medical Partners, Dr. Wrubel was an investment professional with Canaan Partners and more recently Highland Capital Partners, where he specialized in biotechnology and medical device investments. Dr. Wrubel serves on the board of directors of EndoGastric Solutions, Inc., CardioMEMS, Inc., IlluminOss and Circulite, Inc.
Dr. Wrubel began his business career as a consultant at The Wilkerson Group, a health care-focused management consulting company. Dr. Wrubel completed a pediatric internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. He holds an A.B. from Lafayette College, an M.D. and Masters in Public Health from Tufts University, and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.
Dr. Wrubel serves on the Translational Research Advisory Committee of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and is a member of the Health Leadership Council of Save The Children.
Hiromi Takagi
Senior Managing Director, Takagi Industrial Co., Ltd.
Hiromi Takagi is the Senior Managing Director of Takagi Industrial Company. He previously held the positions of General Manager, Sales and Marketing, and General Manager, Sales Department. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Nihon University.
